|LRU Men's Soccer Bests Wingate, 2-1|

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (6-8-1, 2-4) held off Wingate University (4-9, 2-4), 2-1, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.Junior defender Joe Green (York, ENGLAND) and senior midfielder George Wilson (London, ENGLAND) each scored their first goals of the 2011 season as the Bears snapped a five-match losing streak to the Bulldogs.
Green opened the scoring in the 14th minute when he headed in a corner kick from junior defender Chris Johnson (Liverpool, ENGLAND), who was credited with the assist.
The score remained 1-0 until Wilson found the back off the net with a blast from about 30 yards out on the right side at the 68:31 mark of the match.
Wingate cut the lead in half at 2-1 when Fabricio Barancoski (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) scored right in front of the net off a header from Corey McCollom (Monroe, N.C.) in the 83rd minute.
McCollom had received a corner kick from Zach Machuca (Fair Lawn, N.J.). Both McCollom and Machuca were credited with the assist on the play.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) picked up the victory after stopping six shots on the night.
Peter Trask (Alpaus, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal for Wingate, who held a 16-12 advantage in shots taken. Trask tallied three saves in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Brevard in a league match on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. Wingate returns home to face Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference contest Monday at 4 p.m.
