ASU Women’s Tennis Competes at ITA Regional PDF Print

ASU’s Jessica Thaggard (Acworth, Ga. / Etowah) picked up a win as Appalachian State women’s tennis competed at the 2011 ITA Carolinas Regional tournament on Thursday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of University of North Carolina. Competing in the singles qualifying draw, Thaggard defeated Kourtney Kowal of Coastal Carolina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Unfortunately, the sophomore drew a second-round match against seeded player Kelly Cameron of UNC Wimington, who won the match 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Jennifer Ansari (Greensboro, N.C. / Walter  Hines Page) and Gabby Gabriel (Weddington, N.C. / Providence Day) lost to the pair of Jansaker and Khoury of Elon, 8-4, while Gabriela Celi (Orlando, Fla. / Lake Howell) and Thaggard lost to USC Upstate’s Rojas and von Stryk, 8-3.
Ansari, who qualified for the Round of 64 will face Duke’s Monica Gorny on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
