The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has released its playoff pairings for the volleyball state playoffs.
And Watauga High, which won the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championship Wednesday night by knocking off St. Stephens, will open

post-season play at home agianst T.C. Roberson (13-12), a wildcard team from the Mountain Athletic 3A/4A Conference. Saturday's match will begin at 1 p.m. The Pioneers (18-7), the No.1 seed from the NW3A/4A Conference, defeated TCR in the opening-round of the state playoffs in 2009.
WHS's first-round match will be played at Lentz-Eggers Gym Saturday at a time to be announced. The winner of this match will play either (conference foe) South Caldwell (who WHS defeated twice during the regular season), or A.C. Reynolds (which defeated WHS 3-2 on August 25 in Asheville) in a second-round match Tuesday night. If the Pioneers advance, they would host that second-round match.
In other NW3A/4A matches Saturday, in Class 4A, Alexander Central will host Olympic; and in Class 3A, Fred T. Foard entertains North Gaston, St. Stephens entertains Tuscola, and Hickory, which won 2 games  this season (the Red Tornadoes are 2-14 but earned the No.3 seed among the 3A schools in the NW3A/4A), travels to Patton.
