LRU's Griewisch Finishes Second At The Blue Ridge Open PDF Print

Lenoir-Rhyne University senior Kate Griewisch (Banner Elk, N.C.) finished second out of 177 runners Friday afternoon at the Blue Ridge Cross Country Open at the State Farm Fields.

Griewisch, a two-time NCAA Division II All-American (2009-10), ran the 5K course in 17:54 and trailed only Wake Forest's Nicole Irving (17:43).
On the women's side, Lenoir-Rhyne finished 16th out of 21 schools while Furman was the top overall squad.
Sophomore Ashley Kale (Maiden, N.C.) placed 97th with a time of 20:28 while sophomore Laura Rhyne (Taylorsville, N.C.) ran a 20:43 to finish 104th overall for the Bears.
For the men, L-R placed 20th out of 23 teams in a race against mostly NCAA Division I competition while George Mason took home team honors.
Freshman James Palaniuk (Marina, Calif.) was the top men's runner for Lenoir-Rhyne as he placed 94th overall with a 27:30 while junior Zack Queen (Gastonia, N.C.) ran the 8K course in 27:42, good for 106th.
High Point's Patrick Crawford was the top men's runner as he finished with a time of 24:38.
The L-R Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams next compete in the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 22, at Panther Creek Park in Morristown, Tenn.  Carson-Newman will serve as the host institution.

Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Rallies To Defeat Anderson, 3-2

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (13-9, 5-6) came from two sets down to defeat Anderson University (5-16, 3-8), 3-2, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday evening at the Abney Center.  The Bears prevailed by scores of 23-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-11 and 15-12.
L-R senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) led the way with a team-high 14 kills to go along with 13 digs while freshman outside hitter Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) added 11 kills and 11 digs en route to the win.
Sophomore return specialist Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) was the third player to notch a double-double for Lenoir-Rhyne, finishing with 28 assists and 10 digs as the Bears won their second consecutive match.
Anderson fell despite a match-high 17 kills and 18 digs from Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) and 42 assists from Meghan Cautero (Naples, Fla.).
The Trojans' Joy Hiller (Greenville, S.C.) added 13 kills but Anderson suffered its eighth straight setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference match on the road Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.  Anderson remains at home to host Brevard (1 p.m.) and Francis Marion (5 p.m.) on Saturday.
