The University of North Carolina's trustees are scheduled to meet Friday to approve the hiring of Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham as the school's next Athletics Director. He would replace Dick Baddour, who will officially resign following the school's scheduled appearance with the NCAA infractions committee
on October 28. Baddour was AD at North Carolina for 14 years. The schools will hold an emergency meeting Friday morning to discuss what is being labeled as a "personal matter;" the school has announced it expects to hold a news conference shortly afterwards.
Cunningham, who graduated from Notre Dame, spent six years as AD at Tulsa. He was AD at Ball State for three years before he went to Tulsa. And he nearly accepted the Kansas AD job last December before he changed his mind.
Cunningham has led Tulsa to 34 Conference USA championships, the school made a $25 million renovation to the football stadium, and the school also spent nearly $10 million in construction costs concerning the Case Athletic Complex.
UNC has also extended the contracts of men's basketball coach Roy Williams, women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell and baseball coach Mike Fox through the 2018 season.
