WHS Volleyball Keeps Title Hopes Alive PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team bounced back from Saturday's disappointing effort and defeated Alexander Central Tuesday night in Taylorsville.

The Pioneers (15-7 overall; 8-1 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) defeated the Cougars in four games: 25-13, 25-14, 19-25, 25-18. The win pulls WHs into a first-place tie with St. Stephens. The Indians (8-1 in league play) had the night off. Fred T. Foard (8-2 in league play) remained a half-game back in third by knocking off Hibriten in a three-game sweep.
Kristen Carter paced WHS with 37 assists, four aces and nine digs; Colby Combs had 11 kills and four blocks; Hannah Stewart had seven kills and six aces; Channing Hagaman had 14 kills and 15 digs; Skylar Hicks had 29 digs and Ashlyn Van Dyke had 12 digs.
Alexander Central won the JV game, defeating WHS in a two game sweep by identical 25-17 scores. Connie Bower had six assists; Sarah Combs had five assists; Kiersten McClannon had six digs; Sierra Hill had four kills and two blocks; Andrea Foster had three kills and two blocks. The Pioneers return home to play South Caldwell Thursday night.

WHS GOLF RAINED OUT

 

The Watauga High women's golf team had its match at Hibriten rained out Tuesday. It's been rescheduled for Thursday......The Watauga Middle School football team wraps up the season with a game at Gamewell tonight at 5 p.m.......And the WHS men's and women's cross country teams are in Newton for the United Way Invitational. It will be a huge meet with 37 teams in the field.
