UPDATE2: "Suspicious Device" Detonated PDF Print

An explosion ended the drama of the afternoon at the ASU Physical Plant complex on Dale Street late yesterday afternoon, that as a ‘Specialized Law Enforcement Team,’ the ‘Hazardous Devices Team’ from the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office—their bomb squad—set their own charge and detonated a suspicious package found there.  The sequence began when the ‘suspicious device’ was found near the Physical Plant building at about 2pm, prompting an evacuation of the area and the closing of the State Farm parking lot.  University Police kept at least a 500-foot perimeter around the scene until the team arrived from Wilkes. The team detonated their own bomb next to the package at 5:47, and examining the contents, determined that the item was not any type of explosive device.  Just what they found was not revealed late yesterday by ASU Police, who said their investigation continues.  ASU used its emergency alert system to notify students of the situation and of the closing of the State Farm lot, and gave the all-clear just after 6pm.
