Appalachian State men’s tennis had a nearly perfect performance, as eight Mountaineer singles and three doubles pairs won their flight as ASU dominated the Wofford College Tournament at the Reeve Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.

Against opponents from Wofford, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville, Appalachian State started the weekend 20-0 on Saturday and followed that with a 9-1 day on Sunday.
“We definitely played well,” commented head coach Bob Lake. “We had a tough weekend at Davidson but we really picked it up this second week; I’m thrilled we won all eight singles flights.”
Alex Markov (Pernik, Bulgaria/Hawai’i Pacific) went 3-0 in flight #1, while Philip Kloc (Melbourne, Australia/Mentone Grammar) took three matches at flight #2. Alain Humblet (Montreal, Quebec/DE Mortagne) won both his flight #3 matches, and Sebastien King (Montreal, Quebec/George Vanier) earned three victories in flight #4 to remain undefeated this fall.
Appalachians lineup was rounded out by Andrew McKinnon (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) in flight #5 (3-0), Matt Saltsgaver (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) in flight #6 (2-0), Ezekiel Sansing (Memphis, Tenn./White Salmon) in flight #7 (3-0) and Carson Greve (Charlotte, N.C./Grace Academy) in flight #8 (2-0).
The Mountaineers’ only loss came in doubles flight #1, as Kloc and Humblet went 1-1 on the weekend. Markov and King won flight #2, McKinnon and Sansing swept flight #3, and Saltsgaver and Greve took flight #4.
The Apps now head into the ITA Carolinas Regional next weekend beginning Thursday, October 13. The event will be held in Chapel Hill, N.C. and is hosted by University of North Carolina.
