Appalachian State University field hockey was shut out by No. 2 North Carolina, 12-0, on Sunday afternoon.Tar Heels’ Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany netted the first goal of the game in the second minute and would tab another goal in the 19th minute. North Carolina’s leading scorer, Kelsey Kolojejchick gave UNC a 2-0 lead in the eighth minute and recorded her 15th goal of the season in the 27th minute. Caitlin Van Sickle scored the Tar Heels’ fourth goal of the game in the 21st minute.
In the second-half, Van Sickle netted her second goal of the game early in the 32nd minute. The Tar Heels scored six more goals in the final 33 minutes of the contest, including a pair from Katie Plyler.
The Mountaineers’ senior Bridgette Street recorded a season-best 11 saves on a season-high 26 shots on goal.
The Mountaineers (1-11, 1-3 NorPac) were out shot by the second-ranked Tar Heels, 38-0, with eight different players scoring, including four players netting a pair of goals.
Appalachian travels to Philadelphia, Pa next weekend for a pair of games. ASU will take on Towson on October 14 at 2:30 p.m. and Penn on Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
