|Freeman Earns College Sports Madness Honor|

Appalachian State junior forward Anna Freeman has been named as a first team all-SoCon preseason selection by College Sports Madness.Freeman, last year’s SoCon ‘Defensive Player of the Year’, is the Mountaineers leading returning scorer after averaging 14.2 points per game during the 2010-11 campaign. She finished the season with team highs in blocks (45), steals (100) and rebounds (222).
She led the SoCon in steals and ranked in the top-10 in eight other statistical categories. Freeman posted four double-doubles last season and was named as a first team all-SoCon selection by the league’s coaches while earning second team honors from the SoCon Sports Media Association.
Freeman also earned first team all-SoCon Tournament honors and was a preseason all-SoCon selection prior to the start of last season. She scored 20 or more points in four contests during the 2010-11 season and posted a double-double (21 pts, 14 reb) in a win over ACC foe Wake Forest.
Appalachian will take on Mars Hill in an exhibition on Oct. 29 before opening the regular season at Virginia on Nov. 11. The Mountaineers’ first regular season home contest takes plays against East Tennessee State on Nov. 21.
