The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (10-1, 5-0) set a new school record by winning its ninth consecutive match in a 4-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial University (4-5-2, 1-2-1) in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.Four different players scored in the first half for the seventh-ranked Bears, who remained unbeaten in league play so far this season.
L-R junior All-American midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) opened the scoring just 2:58 into the match with a goal on a shot from the right side.
Freshman defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.) gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage in the 24th minute when she finished off a penalty kick. The goal was Kiebel's first of the season.
Senior All-American midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) and senior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) rounded out the scoring for Lenoir-Rhyne in the first half.
Linehan is now tied with freshman midfielder Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.), who tallied an assist today, for the team lead in goals this year with seven.
Lincoln Memorial scored the match's lone goal in the second half when Brittany Jenkins (Alpharett, Ga.) rebounded in a saved free kick.
Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeepers, junior Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) and redshirt freshman Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.), each played a half while Scruggs was credited with the victory.
Lincoln Memorial's Kayla Hanson (Melbourne, Fla.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping nine Lenoir-Rhyne shots.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Mars Hill in a conference contest Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. Lincoln Memorial hosts Montevallo on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Lincoln Memorial Surges Past Lenoir-Rhyne, 4-1, In Men's Soccer
The Lincoln Memorial University Men's Soccer Team (5-3-2, 4-0) scored the match's final three goals and received a hat trick from Marcus Pinto (Uberlandia, BRAZIL) to down Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-6-1, 0-3), 4-1, Saturday night in a league match at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
Tusculum Volleyball Sweeps Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-0
The Tusculum College Volleyball Team (14-4, 7-3) won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (11-9, 3-6) in a South Atlantic Conference contest Friday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. The Pioneers defeated the Bears by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 26-24.
