Officer O’Neal was the investigator for a bizarre 8:05pm Wednesday night crash on US 421 near Bamboo.  In that, a white Mercedes struck the rear of a black Ford Fusion, causing the ford to careen several hundred feet off the road. Then the Mercedes sideswiped a red Mustang, causing the Mustang to crash into the guard rail.  The Mercedes also hit the guardrail, riding up on it for some 58 feet, according to O’Neal.  Two of the occupants of the struck vehicles suffered some neck pain, and were transported to Watauga Medical Center by Medics, and were later released, while O’Neal cited the Mercedes driver for Failure to Reduce Speed.
