Separate Incidents Lead to Drug Charges PDF Print

Three separate incidents last week lead to drug arrests in Avery County, according to Sheriff Kevin Frye.  On September 22nd the Avery County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Avery County Drug Task Force in the search of a residence on Balm Hwy in Banner Elk.

Officers located Marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Twenty-Two year Phillip Franklin of Banner Elk has been charged with possession of Marijuana and possession of a Schedule I Narcotics. 
On September 21st Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office assisted North Carolina Probation and Parole Officers in the search of a residence on Millers Gap Hwy. Twenty-nine year old Daniel Taylor of Newland was arrested and charged with possession of Methamphetamine precursors. 
On September 19th Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Buddy Joe Hamby of Newland. Officers went to the residence to arrest Mr. Hamby on a domestic violence warrant. Once at the residence officers found Marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
