Mountaineers Maintain No.3 Ranking PDF Print

The Appalachian State University football team, which survived a huge scare Saturday in its Southern Conference opener against Chattanooga, maintained its No.3 ranking in the national polls, which were released on Monday.

 

The Mountaineers (3-1; 1-0 SoCon), who play at No.8 Wofford College on Saturday, are ranked third in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FC Top 25 College Football Poll, and they're ranked third in the FCS Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers also received eight first-place votes in the TSN Poll.
Georgia Southern (3-0; 2-0 SoCon), which destroyed Western Carolina on Saturday, remained the unanimous No.1 team in the nation. The Eagles received 124 first-place votes in TSN Poll and 25 first-place votes in the FCS Coaches Poll. Wofford College (3-1, 1-0 SoCon) is ranked eighth in the TSN Poll, but moves up to sixth in the Coaches Poll; Chattanooga (2-2; 0-2 Socon) is 15th in TSN Poll; 14th in the Coaches Poll.
The Eagles, Northern Iowa, the Mountaineers, Montana State and North Dakota State, which defeated Minnesota on the road Saturday, round out the top five. Delaware, New Hampshire, which outscored Richmond 45-43 in overtime Saturday, the Terriers, James Madison, and Richmond round out the top ten. The Dukes suspended their quarterback Justin Thorpe and linebacker Chase Williams for a violation of JMU Athletics policy.
Georgia Southern, Northern Iowa, ASU, Montana State and William & Mary round out the top five in the Coaches Poll. Defending national champion, Eastern Washington, despite an 0-4 start, is ranked 22nd in the Coaches Poll. EWU is the first defending national champion to start the following season 0-4 since Southern Illinois-Carbondale in 1984.
