Appalachian State field hockey fell short in its home-opener in a 4-3 setback to Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Colonials’ Jamie Hartley scored off a penalty corner pass from Taleah Scott at the six minute mark.  Freshman Brooke Angellella responded for the Mountaineers with her third goal of the season in the 10th-minute.  Robert Morris took a 2-1 lead inton halftime when Eloise Irwin netted an unassisted goal late in the 34th-minute.
The Colonials (6-5) tagged on another goal by Scott in 39th-minute, but the Mountaineers’ offense kept pressing and cut the Colonials’ lead to 3-2 from a goaly by sophomore Brooklyn Shearer.  RMU’s Hartley tabbed her second goal of the game that brought RMU’s lead back to two goals.  Freshman Dana Wetmore would put Appalachian with in striking distance when she scored her second goal of the season in the 68th-minute.  The Mountaineers (1-7) weren’t able to record the game tying-goal in a last minute surge.
ASU will take its undefeated conference record to Friday’s match as they play host to conference foes Radford at 7:45 p.m. and Longwood on Sunday at 1 p.m.
