The Watauga High volleyball team continued its winning ways Saturday.
The Pioneers (12-4) swept Mountain Heritage and West Henderson in a tri-match at Lentz-Eggers Gym. WHS defeated Mountain Heritage in three games: 25-18, 25-20, 25-17. The Pioneers defeated West Henderson in four games: 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22.
Anna Church paced the Pioneers with 47 assists; Kristen Carter, who injuried her shoulder at South Caldwell last Tuesday, played against Mountain Heritage and had 13 assists.
"To use an old we cliche we really circled the wagons today," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "We play together as a team and filling in for the injured and unavailable. It was a good experience because it allowed us to show off our depth which I believe will be key as we move further in season."
Colby Combs had 25 kills and five aces; Hannah Stewart had 21 kills and nine digs, Channing Hagaman had 18 kills and 19 digs. Kiersten McClannon had three aces and eight digs; Rebecca Hayes had five blocks and six kills, and Ashlyn VanDyke had aces.
