Ed Gainey and Lanston Tanyi will play for the Appalachian State University football team Saturday in its Southern Conference opener against Chattanooga at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Gainey, a senior, and Tanyi, a junior, were both suspended and did not play last week against Savannah State for violation of team rules. Tanyi has 11 tackles and two tackles-for-loss in two games this season; Gainey has four stops, five passes defended and he's broken up five passes in two games.
The Mountaineers, ranked third in the nation in both The Sports Network and FCS Coaches Polls, are 31-8 in SoCon openers. The last time they lost a SoCon opener was in 2007, ironically the same year that the Mountaineers won their third and final national championship.
ASU is looking for its seventh consecutive SoCon title. Our coverage of Saturday's game between the Mountaineers and the Mocs begins at 1:30 p.m. on AM 1450, WATA.
