Churches are being targeted in the greater area, according to Avery Sheriff Kevin Frye, with several reports made to the Avery County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office about break ins and larcenies. The sheriff said no suspects have been identified at the time of the reports, but in Avery County, the sheriff said it appears one of the churches, Higher Ground Worship Center in Pineola, was broken into in the early morning hours, giving some indication as to when the break ins are being done.  Anyone with information about these crimes or with information about vehicles being in the areas of Higher Ground Worship Center, Long Ridge Church or Pittman Gap Church is asked to call Avery County Sheriff’s Office or High Country Crime Stoppers at 828-737-0125. Crime Stoppers wants your information not your name. A cash reward is available to persons giving information which leads to an arrest, recovery of stolen property or seizure of drugs.
