Villanueva, Vikings Fall, 56-31 PDF Print

The Avery High football team came up short in its conference opener Friday night against Black Mountain Owen.

The Warhorses racked up 430 yards offensively and outscored Avery 56-31 in the Western Highlands 1A/2A Conference opener for both teams Friday night at MacDonald Stadium in Newland, NC.
The Warhorses also snapped a four-game slide and picked up their first win of the year. Quarterback Alex Villanueva of the Vikings ran for 152 yards, threw for 143 yards, scored a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass in the loss. The Vikings ran for 225 yards and they had 368 yards offensively.
Avery (3-2 overall; 0-1 WHC) led 17-14 after the first quarter, but trailed 35-17 at halftime and 49-23 to start the fourth quarter. The Vikings travel to Thomas Jefferson next Friday night.
