There were other issues besides ETJ appointments at the joint Town of Boone-Watauga Commission meeting from late Monday—and more agreement, including the amount of water the Town will allocate for the old high school property, under consideration by potential buyers —with the water allocation critical to a potential sale of the property. Boone Public utilities director Rick Miller said the county initially requested a 200,000 gallon per day allocation for which the Town’s Water Use Committee approved a 70,000 gallons per day special set aside. Another county request lead the Water Use Committee to increase the set aside to 150,000 gallons per day until the end of this calendar year. Mayor Clawson explained that under current water usage projections this only leaves 40,000 gallons per day to allocate for other new projects until additional sources of water can be secured. Commissioner Vince gable said they needed assurance of an adequate water supply to the property to potential buyers and the Boone Council members gave their verbal assurance that the water set aside would be maintained for the old high school property.
