Wood Leads WHS Golfers In Season Opener PDF Print

Savanna Wood has picked up right where she left off last season.

The Watauga High sophomore, who qualified for the state meet last season, fired a 40 on the opening round and finished second in the season-opening Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match at Orchard Hills Golf Course in Granite Falls, NC. Wood finished two shots behind the leading medalist, Abbey Hartsel of Alexander Central, who fired a 38.
Team-wise, WHS finished third with a score of 150; Alexander Central won the meet with a 129. South Caldwell finished second with a 145. Rounding out the scoring for WHS, Carrie Hayes had a 53, Rebecca Shoemake had a 57, Emily Rochelle and Tasha Wilson each had a 59.
The Pioneers will host a NW3A/4A meet at the Boone Golf Club next Tuesday, September 20.
