'Hoppers advance to Finals with 2-0 win PDF Print

The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads were edged by the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 2-0, before 2,552 fans on Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Grasshoppers will advance to the SAL Finals with a 2-0 series victory.

After a scoreless first inning, Greensboro got on the board in the top of the second with a solo home run by Ryan Fisher against losing pitcher Will Lamb (0-1). James Leverton (1-0) of the Grasshopperskept the 'Dads offense at bay. The Crawdads were hitless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Tomas Telis singled with two outs.
Lamb surrendered only the one run through five innings, scattering four hits with one walk, while striking out eight.  Leverton countered with seven scoreless frames, striking out 10 and holding the 'Dads off the board through his seven innings of work.
Greensboro added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, when Noah Perio singled in Isaac Galloway from second base. Grant Dayton of the Grasshoppers come on in relief and pitched a scoreless eighth inning; Michael Brady shut the door on the Crawdads' season with a scoreless ninth inning for his first save.
