Madison Bumgarner is doing his best to keep the world champion San Francisco Giants in the pennant race.

And the Giants (74-67), who began the day7 games behind first-place Arizona in the National League West and nine games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wildcard race, received a marvelous performance from Bumgarner, who picked up his tenth win of the year.
The Giants, thanks to Bumgarner's effort, defeated the San Diego Padres 7-2 at PETCO Park Monday afternoon. Bumgarner, who left the game after allowing a one-out solo home run by Nick Hundley in the ninth, went 8 1/3 innings and posted a career-high 13 strikeouts.
He gave up two earned runs on seven hits and only walked one. Pablo Sandoval supported Bumgarner's effort with a pair of home runs. A two-run double by Cody Ross in the eighth highlighted a three-run inning for San Francisco and broke the game open.
On the year, Bumgarner (10-12) has given up 68 earned runs in 181 2/3 innings of work with 170 strikeouts and 42 walks. He lowered his earned-run-average, thanks to Monday's effort, to 3.37.
Bumgarner's next scheduled start comes against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend at AT&T Park.
