Fire damaged a Fleetwood area church Saturday during the lunch hour. Fleetwood, Todd, and West Jefferson all responded equipment and manpower to Baldwin Community Church on NC 194, finding fire in the narthex, office area and to Sunday School rooms.  But with the quick response of the three departments, fire damage was held to those three areas, the rest of the structure, including the sanctuary, suffering some water and smoke damage.  Fleetwood members said that there was work going on at the church, but it was not clear whether that might have caused damage to the brick structure, and Ashe Fire Marshal Bob Davis is looking into the cause.
