WHS Tennis Rescheduled with St. Stephens PDF Print

Watauga High women's tennis coach Christine Vanard has announced that the Pioneers will host St. Stephens in a double-header at the Sports Complex on September 27.

The Indians were scheduled to play the PIoneers (4-1 overall; 3-0 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) September 1, but the match was postponed because St.Stephens didn't have enough players. It was reported that the Indians might suspend their season as well. That extreme was avoided when the Indians added four new players to their roster.
The Indians will also play double-headers against all of their conference opponents on the road.
"I was told that their team has added four new girls, so they're going to have a season afterall," Vanard said. "But those players  are still quite new to the sport. It's going to be a trying situation, but I give them credit. They're going to have a season."
If St. Stephens would have suspended its season, the Indians would have been the third WHS opponent in conference play to do that. McDowell and Alexander Central suspended their teams in consecutive seasons during the late 1990's in men's tennis in the old Northwestern 4A Conference.
The Pioneer have also added two matches to the schedule. They travel to Asheville on October 5; they play at T.C. Roberson on September 14. But the date for TCR is tenative and subject to change. The Pioneers will host Fred T. Foard in a NW3A/4A match at the Sports Complex on Tuesday, September 6.
