Pioneers Blast Patton. 5-0 PDF Print

The Watauga High men's soccer team continued its winning ways Wednesday night as the Pioneers blitzed Patton 5-0 at Jack Groce Stadium in a non-conference game.


WHS (6-1), riding a four-game winning streak, scored all of its goals in the first half. And junior Alex Parsons continued his torrid scoring pace with two goaLs and an assist. He now has eight goals on the year. Jake Chasteen, Zack Helms (who came off the injury list) and Brian Greer scored the other WHS goals.
"We didn't waste any time tonight," said WHS coach Woody McKay. "We did all of our scoring in the first half and settled the issue. I'm very pleased with the way we played. We're on a good streak right now. We're playing well."
Sam Shell, Berkeley Wilcox, Will Voss and Eli Murrey all picked up an assist. The JV team (3-0-1) remained undefeated by defeating Patton, 2-0.
Vincente Montelong and Dylan Hill scored for WHS; Trey Ollis and Will Spinetto each had an assist. North Bumcombe comes to town next Thursday, September 8.




The Watauga High men's and women's cross country teams bested the competition in a non-scoring relay meet Wednesday in Boone.
The WHS women captured the top three spots in the field. Hickory, which finished fourth, was a little more than five minutes behind the WHS B team that finished third. The WHS C team won the race in the impressive time of 50 minutes, 31 seconds. That team consisted of Celia Jackson, Molly Ruble, Doria Kosmala and Hannah Barbour. The WHS A team finished a close second, just seven second behind. That squad was led by Mandy Eagle-Farrar, Riley Dobbins, Hailey Middlebrook and Madison Harman
The WHS men had similar results. The Pioneers captured the top three spots in the with the WHS C team led by Drew Boyette, Matt Osborne, Robert Seagle and Andrew Vandenberg paced the field in 44:49. The WHS A team (John Volmer, Michael Holland, Dylan Lewis and Peter Vandenberg) finished a close second at 45:06. The WHS B team (Noah Allain, Andrew Harrelson, Will Vandenberg and Josh Anderson) finished third in 45:29.
WHS travels to the Caldwell County meet next Tuesday, September 6.
