The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team is picked to finish third in the race for the 2011 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, announced league officials Friday with the release of the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Belmont Abbey College is the favorite to capture the regular season crown with 115 points and six first-place votes, followed closely by Pfeiffer University with 112 points and five first-place votes. Lees-McRae is third with 101 points and one first-place vote, while Queens University of Charlotte (93) and Mount Olive College (80) round out the top five.
Limestone College is picked sixth with 70 points while Erskine College (53) is seventh in the poll. Newcomers King College and North Greenville University are tied for eighth with 49 points each, followed by Barton College (26), Coker College (24), and Converse College (20).
The Bobcats look to build upon the success of Cally Morrill's first season at the helm, after finishing the 2010 campaign in a three-way tie for second in the Conference Carolinas standings, while posting a 14-6 overall record and an 8-2 mark against league opponents. Lees-McRae will rely on a seasoned core of seniors to lead their young team on its quest for the program's second conference title, including 2010 all-Conference Carolinas selections Vickie Rich, Brooke Santerre and Mary Dorn.
"Having a pre-season ranking in the top three is quite an honor for this program, but our mind is set on being on top come the end of the season," said Morrill. "Our focus, work rate and ability to stay healthy throughout the fall will determine how far we go. We look forward to getting started."
Lees-McRae opens the 2011 season on Friday, September 2 when the Bobcats travel to Dahlonega, Ga. to take on North Georgia College & State University at 4 p.m.
