NOTES: The Panthers were again without top receiver Steve Smith, who sat out to rest his injured finger......The Panthers did share some good news before the game, announcing the signing of Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil to a five-year contract extension. Kalil, in his fifth season out of Southern California, is the only offensive lineman in franchise history to appear in consecutive Pro Bowls, accomplishing the feat the past two seasons. The Panthers had placed their franchise tag in February on Kalil, who otherwise would have been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.
