For seven innings Monday night Madison Bumgarner was in complete control. The lefthander held the Atlanta Braves to two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. And he owned a 3-2 lead when he left the game. Unfortunately, the San Francisco Giants' bullpen couldn't hold the lead. The end result, the Braves rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth and beat the Giants 5-4 at Turner Field.
Freddie Freeman won it for Atlanta with a two-run, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth against San Francisco closer Brian Wilson. The loss drops the Giants (66-56), who have lost seven of their last 11 games, 2 1/2 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West.
Bumgarner (7-11 with a 3.49 earned-run-average) makes his next scheduled start Sunday in Houston.
