Elderly Couple Hurt in Freak Accident PDF Print

A 1pm Friday accident in a sharp curve on Highland Avenue in Boone caused two injuries.  The accident was just past the Wintergreen intersection at Leah Street, where a 91-year old man—a resident of Leah—got out of his sedan to deal with his garbage container, but did not put the car in park, according to Boone Police.

When the car started to roll, he tried to get back in but was thrown to the ground, scraped and cut in the process.  Meanwhile, his 91-year old wife was left in the passenger’s seat, while the car careened off the road, downhill across a long vacant lot, crashing into the woods behind a house on Highland.  The car was almost invisible to traffic on Highland in the woods, and was unstable where it landed, causing Boone Fire to respond and stabilized the car. Then firemen helped remove the woman, transporting her in their stokes basket to a waiting Watauga Medics ambulance.  Boone Police sorted out the details and filed no charges in the accident.
