Just as dinner was being served, fire broke out at the Manor House Restaurant at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock yesterday afternoon.  Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue was dispatched at about 5:20, and found flames visible near the roof of the restaurant when firefighter's arrived on scene. (Photos courtesy Blowing Rock Fire/Rescue) The firefighters were able to get to the fire after removing part of a wall and ceiling on the backside of the kitchen. It appeared that fire started near an electrical panel in a service area off of the kitchen, and spread up to the roof inside a wall, but Blowing Rock Fire said that the blaze was mostly contained by the work of employees, using extinguishers and the sprinkler system in the kitchen ceiling of the restaurant. Fire officials said damage would have been much worse if the staff hadn't noticed the fire quickly and thanks to the sprinkler system in the building.  The fire was spotted at about the same time the alarm sounded, and staff managed to evacuate the building safely, and only one injury was reported to a firefighter, who was treated by Medics on the scene and again at Watauga Medical Center.
The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the Blowing Rock Fire Department, who noted that the Boone Fire Department was on stand-by at Blowing Rock Fire Station One and responded to a medical call for their department while they were out on the fire.
