Providence baseball coach Danny Hignight is one of four coaches selected to coach the USA 14-and-under National Team at the PanAM Games in Venezuela, August 10-22.

Hignight, who graduated from Appalachian State University, was an assistant coach for Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee in the late 1990's.  Tryouts for the national team are being held in Cary, NC. There are 40 players attending the tryouts. The roster will be trimmed down to 18 players for the PanAM Games.

 

SHRINE BOWL TO BE TELEVISED

The 75th Annual Shrine Bowl will be streamed live through ESPN3.com. The game will be played at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC on December 17. Invitations for players will be sent out in October.

 

LRU MEDIA DAY SUNDAY

 

 

Lenoir-Rhyne University has scheduled its annual Media Day for football on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moretz Stadium.

Mike Houston is the new head coach for the Bears, who play Concord (W. Va.) on Sept. 3 on the road to open the season.

LRU’s first home game is Sept. 17 against Carson-Newman at 7 p.m.
