Media to High Country: "Roll Up Your Sleeves" PDF Print

Today, the folks who bring you the world—and what is going on locally—all the local media organizations—are putting away the competition that exists in the day-to-day of business, and teaming up with the Red Cross for the High Country’s first Media Blood Drive. The collection starts at 9 a.m. and runs all day, to 7 p.m. at Greenway Baptist Church, 880 Greenway Road in Boone. The drive is a collaboration between Mountain Times Publications, publishers of the Watauga Democrat, The Mountain Times and The Blowing Rocket, as well as the Mountain Television Network and High Country Radio, home to WMMY Highway 106, Mix 102.3, Oldies 100.7, WATA 1450 AM, WXIT 1200 AM and Glory 1130 and GoBlueRidge.net.
“We’re urging our readers and our listeners and our viewers to come and support this,” said Gene Fowler, publisher of Mountain Times Publications and a Red Cross board of directors member.
Each donor will receive a T-shirt and chances to win prizes donated by a number of local businesses.  The event should be fun, but certainly has the serious side of the critical need of blood—always an issue in the summer months, but even more critical now than usual.  So plan your day around a stop at Greenway Baptist, roll up your sleeve, and give the gift of life.
