Ashe Investigators Identify Fire Victim PDF Print

Ashe investigators have identified the man killed early yesterday in the Fleetwood house fire as 32 year old Shawn Dean.  They also say they are awaiting the cause of death from that autopsy.  The Fleetwood blaze was battled by the Fleetwood Fire Department, dispatched at about 1 yesterday morning,

with Deep Gap also called to the Russell Combs Road home off Water Tank Road.  A passing motorist spotted the glow of the fire, and tried to see if anyone was in the home, but could find no one.  As the fire was knocked down, it was determined that someone died in the fire, causing Ashe Sheriff’s Office investigators to be called to the scene at about 2:30am, and one body was found inside the home.  That person—now unidentified as Shawn Dean—was sent to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for an autopsy. The SBI arson team has been called in by the Ashe Fire Marshal, but the Ashe Sheriff’s Office release indicates that no foul play is indicated in their preliminary look at the scene.
