The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, two-hit the Delmarva Shorebirds for the 3-0 shutout victory, before 2,662 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.The Crawdads (60-40, 20-12) powered their way in front with three solo home runs through the first four innings against losing pitcher David Baker (1-1). Christian Villanueva knocked the first one over the left field wall in the second inning before Tomas Telis and Andrew Clark went back-to-back with solo shots in the fourth putting Hickory on top, 3-0.
Winning pitcher Nick Tepesch (6-3) kept the Crawdads kept the lead intact with six scoreless innings. Tepesch scattered two hits and struck out four. But he also gave up four walks. Andrew Doyle, Jimmy Reyes and Francisco Mendoza, who picked up his first save, each followed with a scoreless inning of relief work and closed out the victory.
NOTES: The Crawdads hit the road for a four-game series in Augusta against the GreenJackets, starting on Thursday night at 7:05 pM.....The 'Dads will return home for a four-game set against the Hagerstown Suns at L.P. Frans Stadium from Mon., Aug. 1 - Thurs., Aug. 4. The series gets going with 2-for-1 Senior Night and Bingo on Mon., Aug. 1, presented by 63 Big Ways. First Pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., gates will open at 6 pM.....That night will also be Kids Eat FREE Night, with all kids getting to chow down for free with the purchase of a ticket. The Crawdads Interns will also be competing throughout the game in Intern Olympics to win fans great prizes!
