Appalachian State University quarterback DeAndre Presley (Tampa, Fla./Middleton) and wide receiver Brian Quick (Columbia, S.C./Ridge View) have been named preseason NCAA Division I preseason all-Americans by The Sports Network.

Presley is TSN’s first-team preseason all-America signal-caller while Quick is a third-team honoree on the squads, which were announced on Friday. In his first campaign as a starter a year ago, Presley became only the fourth player in FCS history to pass for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a season, amassing 2,631 passing yards (20th nationally) and 1,039 rushing yards (28th nationally and second among QBs) as a junior. He also ranked second nationally with 35 touchdowns accounted for (21 passing, 13 rushing and one receiving) and fourth with 3,670 yards of total offense en route to being named the SoCon Player of the Year by the league’s coaches and media and finishing third in voting for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top FCS player. He is the top returning vote-getter from last year’s Payton Award balloting.

Quick enters his senior season averaging a whopping 17.7 yards per catch for his career, which is both tops in ASU history and leads all active FCS receivers. Last season, the 6-5, 220-pounder led the Mountaineers and ranked among the Southern Conference leaders with 47 catches for 844 yards and nine touchdowns. He comes into his final collegiate season widely regarded as one of FCS’s top professional football prospects.

Today’s unveiling of The Sports Network’s preseason all-America teams begins what will be a steady stream of preseason prognostications leading up to the start of Appalachian’s fall camp on Friday, Aug. 5. The Southern Conference will announce its preseason poll and all-conference teams early next week.
