Giants Win, Bumgarner Gets An A For Effort PDF Print

Madison Bumgarner suffered his fourth no-decision in his last ten starts Thursday night.

The San Francisco Giants, who lead the National League West, began second-half play Thursday night at PETCO Park in San Diego. And the Giants (53-40), who have been pretty much anemic when Bumgarner is on the mound, were at it again.
They finally woke up offensively with a five-run outburst in the 12th inning and defeated the last-place Padres, 6-2. Bumgarner, who was long-gone by then, turned in a strong performance. The lefthander went six innings and gave up an earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Bumgarner left the game trailing 1-0, but Aubrey Huff saved Bumgarner and the Giants with a lead-off home run in the top of ninth that tied the game 1-1. Mike Fontenot brought in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 12th. The win gives San Francisco a 3 1/2 game lead on Arizona in the NL West.
Bumgarner goes against the Los Angeles Dodgers at AT&T Park in San Francisco July 19.
