2011 Game Times Set PDF Print

Kickoff times for Appalachian State University’s 11 regular-season football games, including six home dates at Kidd Brewer Stadium, have been set, ASU athletics announced on Monday.

Four of Appalachian’s six home games will kick off at 3:30 p.m., with the only exceptions being the Sept. 17 game versus Savannah State, which will start at 6 p.m., and the Oct. 29 showdown versus Georgia Southern, which is set for 3 p.m.
Appalachian will host Savannah State under the lights at Kidd Brewer Stadium in order to avoid conflicting with the University’s Open House activities, which are set for earlier that day. After a five-year hiatus from night games at The Rock, the Mountaineers have kicked off home games at 5 p.m. or later three times in the last four seasons and are 3-0 in those contests.
The Black Saturday matchup versus Georgia Southern will be the Southern Conference Game of the Week and be televised on 32 over-the-air stations across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia as part of the league’s new three-year television package with the states’ public television systems. The unique distribution platform will put SoCon broadcasts in nearly 11 million homes across the Southeast — two million more than the conference’s previous agreement with SportSouth — as well as allow for SoCon Games of the Week to be aired live online, which was not permissible in previous years. The conference is also working on adding stations in Alabama and Tennessee to its package, which could potentially add millions more homes to the 11 million that will already receive the SoCon Game of the Week.
ASU will be featured in three of the eight SoCon Games of the Week this season. In addition to the Oct. 29 showdown versus Georgia Southern, Appalachian’s games at Wofford (Oct. 1) and Elon (Nov. 19) are also part of the league’s television package.
All game times are Eastern and subject to change pending additional television arrangements.

Phil Steel’s 2011 FCS College Football Preview announced late last week that DeAndre Presley, the SoCon Player of the Year last fall, will be on the cover of its 240-page FCS preview magazine this season. The cover can be viewed and the issue pre-ordered at www.philsteele.com. Phil Steel’s 2011 FCS College Football Preview hits newsstands on Aug. 9.
