One step forward, one step back.

That best describes Madison Bumgarner's season with the San Francisco Giants. Every time it looks like Bumgarner will turn the corner, he's fall back a step. Case in point, Wednesday night's game against the San Diego Padres at AT&T Park.
The Giants rallied---thanks to a pair of home runs by Nate Schierholtz---to beat San Deigo 6-5 in 14 innings. Bumgarner was long gone by then. The lefthander, who is 4-9 with a 3.87 earned-run-average, coughed up five earned runs on  nine hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out six.
Schierholtz, who had his the first two-homer game of his career, led off the 14th inning with his game-winning blast. The win snapped a three-game losing streak, and keeps the Giants (49-39) in first place in the National League West. They won a two-game lead on Arizona. Bumgarner next scheduled start comes against San Diego following the
all-star break on July 14 at PETCO Park.
