College of Charleston redshirt-freshman Daniel Aldrich was named to the Baseball America Freshman All-America First Team, the association announced on Tuesday.Aldrich was one of just three players to be named to both the Baseball America All-America team, and the Freshman All-America team, joining North Carolina's Colin Moran and Texas' Corey Knebel. Moran was named the Baseball America Freshman of the Year.
The Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conference led all leagues with five Freshman All-Americans, while Aldrich was one of two representatives from the Southern Conference, along with Samford's Phillip Ervin.
Aldrich has been previously honored as the NCBWA National Freshman of the Year, as a Freshman All-American First Team selection and a Second Team All-American pick. He was selected as Collegiate Baseball's National Freshman of the Year and was also a semifinalist for the 2011 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, awarded to the nation's top amateur baseball player. Aldrich also garnered Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American and First Team Freshman All-American honors.
On July 2, Aldrich won the 2011 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb.
The right-fielder led all Division I freshmen in home runs (22), RBIs (73), slugging percentage (.739) and total bases (164). Aldrich also had 25 multi-hit games on the season and had a team-best 17-game hitting streak in February and March.
Ervin, a native of Leroy, Ala., served as the team's starting center fielder throughout the season. He led the team in batting with a .371 average, while hitting 15 doubles and driving in 41 runs.
During the 2011 season, Ervin compiled the longest hitting streak in the Southern Conference this season, hitting safely in 19-straight games. Ervin was named first-team All-Southern Conference by the media, and second-team All-SoCon and All-Freshman by the league's coaches.
This marks the third Freshman All-America team Ervin has been named to, as he was also selected for the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball, as well as the team selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association.
