New Boone Church Damaged in Fire PDF Print

A tragic afternoon for members of Boone’s First Presbyterian Church, who’s brand new church suffered some fire, and more severe smoke and water damage.  The church was getting ready to celebrate their new sanctuary with the first service set for Sunday when something went wrong in a tower stairway at the main pivot of the building.

Workers were wiring a huge chandelier in the stairway when smoke began to pour from the ceiling, causing a call for Boone Fire, and causing the building to be evacuated of workers and staff.  The firefighting effort managed to contain the fire to that part of the structure, but the rest suffered smoke damage, with some areas having bad water damage.  Firemen had to tear into the roof to reach the smoldering insulation, and it will require considerable repair on that structure.  Members waiting outside expressed hope that pews from the uptown location, refinished and set for installation this week, were not yet in the sanctuary, and they said that the organ should not be in place at this point, being renovated in Tennessee.  We’re awaiting official word on the fire from Boone Fire officials.
