'Dads sweep doubleheader in Kannapolis PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, won both seven-inning games of their doubleheader against the Kannapolis Intimidators, 12-2 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game before 2,241 fans at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Wednesday.


In game one, Odubel Herrera gave the 'Dads (44-30; 4-2) the early 2-0 lead with a two-run single. Hickory increased its lead by scoring an unearned run in the third and went up 5-0 in the fourth on a two-run double by Tomas Telis. A four run fifth inning broke the game open. Jake Skole had an RBI single; Alejandro Selen belted a two-run double to right-center, making it 9-0.
Kannapolis (40-34, 3-2) finally scored in the bottom of the sixth on consecutive home runs by Trayce Thompson and Brady Shoemaker. Nick Tepesch went the distance and picked up the win.
In game two, Kannapolis (40-35, 3-4) grabbed the early lead by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first.  A throwing error by Christian Villanueva put Carlos Sanchez, who led off the inning with a bunt single, in scoring position. He eventaully scored on Dan Black's RBI grounder to second base for a 1-0 lead.
The Crawdads (45-30, 5-2) came right back with three runs in the top of the second. Andrew Clark led off the inning with a walk. Jake Skole walked on out later putting runners on first and second base. Kellin Deglan then tied the game with an RBI double to right field, scoring Clark and moving Skole to third base. Yefry Castillo and LF Jonathan Roof followed with back-to-back RBI singles, handing the 'Dads a 3-1 advantage.
Winning pitcher Luke Jackson (3-1) threw four scoreless innings before Jimmy Reyes and Ryan Rodebaugh, who picked up his 13th save, finished up.
