The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, were edged by the West Virginia Power, 3-1, before 1,111 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Crawdads (42-30, 2-2) took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first.  With one out, Christian Villanueva was hit by a pitch and quickly advanced to third on a base hit by Tomas Telis. Telis then broke for second base with Josh Richmond at the plate. Telis was caught in a run down allowing Villanueva to score from third for the 1-0 lead.
The Power (37-35, 2-2) eventually tied it up with a run  in the top of the third. Kawika Emsley-Pai led off with a walk and scored the tying run on a one-out double by Drew Maggi. West Virginia struck again in the top of the fifth. Emsley-Pai got things started once again with a lead-off walk, and Magg brought him home with a two-run home run over the left-field wall that gave  the Power a 3-1 lead.
Victor Black (1-0) came on in relief in the fifth, threw two scoreless innings and got the win;  Justin Ennis tossed three scoreless innings and picked up his first save.
