A search closed the Linn Cove Viaduct area of the Blue Ridge Parkway from early in the evening yesterday until early this morning after a woman was found, saying she had managed to escape a kidnapper in the Boone Fork area. Emergency medical personnel were called to the area around 6 last night, but the 42-year old woman told the medics that she was physically OK, but gave lawmen from Parkway Police, Blowing Rock Police, along with deputies of the Avery and Watauga Sheriff’s Office a description of the masked man she said kidnapped her in Charlottesville, Virginia, early yesterday. Parkway Police closed off the Parkway at US 221 just out of Blowing Rock, diverting traffic to the Linville side while they launched the search for the man.  A number of leads were followed and checked out during the investigation, but the active search was finally called off early this morning, but the investigation into the incident continues, with Parkway Police taking the lead on this end of the incident.  Details of the Charlottesville end of the crime are yet to be released, but authorities are asking that anyone who saw suspicious activity near Boone Fork and Price Park call authorities.
