Redshirt-freshman Daniel Aldrich (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American First Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday.

Aldrich highlights a total of 34 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country on two All-American squads.
Aldrich was named the 2011 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association and the league's coaches, as well as being named to the All-SoCon First Team. The right-fielder led all Division I freshmen in home runs (22), RBIs (73), slugging percentage (.739) and total bases (164). He had 25 multi-hit games on the season and had a team-best 17-game hitting streak in February and March.
Aldrich was previously named Collegiate Baseball's National Freshman of the Year last week and was also named a semifinalist for the 2011 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, awarded to the nation's top amateur baseball player. Aldrich also garnered Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American and First Team Freshman All-American honors.
The 2011 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 14.

SAMFORD'S PHILLIP ERVIN NAMED NCBWA FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN

Samford center fielder Phillip Ervin was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association's (NCBWA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced on Monday.
Ervin, a native of Leroy, Ala., served as the team's starting center fielder throughout the season. He led the team in batting with a .371 average, while hitting 15 doubles and driving in 41 runs.
During the 2011 season, Ervin compiled the longest hitting streak in the Southern Conference this season, hitting safely in 19-straight games. Ervin was named first-team All-Southern Conference by the media, and second-team All-SoCon and All-Freshman by the league's coaches.
This marks the second Freshman All-America team Ervin has been named to, as he was also selected for the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball.
