Traffic Stops Lead to Drug, Alcohol Charges PDF Print

Avery Sheriff Kevin Frye’s weekly report includes a repeated pattern—traffic stops yielding illicit substances charges.  The first was on Monday, June 6th, when Avery deputies made a traffic stop on Roaring Creek Rd.  The driver, 37-year old Jerry Helton of Jerry’s Creek Rd and 63-year old Ivan Hoilman,

passenger in the vehicle were charged with Possessing non-tax paid Liquor. 

Then early on the morning of Friday, June 10th, Deputies made a traffic stop in Elk Park on Hwy 19E.  The driver of the vehicle, 27-year old Sanford Carson Biddix and passenger 25-year old Kristen Autrey were both charged with Simple Possession of Schedule III drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Misdemeanor Child Abuse.  Officers continued the investigation and later charged 30-year old Shannon Trice and 25-year old Paul Hughes with Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III drug. 
Also Friday, the Avery Municipal/Sheriff Drug Task Force arrested and charged Joni Russell, 36, of Roan Mountain with the felony of Sale and Deliver Schedule II controlled substance and operate a motor vehicle without a license.

This past Sunday, June 12th, Avery Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Linville Falls Highway, and from that incident, officers charged 43-year old Larry Powell with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after their investigation into the disturbance.
