Watauga B Team Drops Opener PDF Print

The Watauga American Junior Legion B Team opened its season Saturday in Marion.

The B Team came up short, dropping a double-header to McDowell in its season opener. Watauga (0-2) lost the opener 6-0, dropped a 2-0 decision in the night-cap. But despite the double-dip loss, Watauga coach Dustin Kerley was impressed.
"We're playing a lot of eighth graders," he said. "So you expect something like this to happen. But they have to start somewhere and that's why we do this."
Matt Lambert had Watauga's only hit in game one; Taylor Moser and Adam Greene had the hits in game two. Losing pitcher Matt Tyndall, a lefthander, was superb in defeat.
He gave up two earned runs on one hit in four innings of work in game two.
"And he's one of three lefthanders we have on our team," Kerley said. "If these kids can keep developing, we could have something real special in a few years. I was very impressed with our pitching and defense. We didn't make any errors all day. We played well, but we ran into some tough pitching."
Watauga travels to Valdese Tuesday night for a double-header at Draughn High School. That double-header begins at 5:30 pm.
"It's another test for our kids," Kerley said. "We'll coach them up and be ready to play. This is a great experience for them and it will help the high school program down the road."
The Watauga A Team (1-1), coached by Bradley Rudisill, entertains Valdese Monday night at Pioneer Field at 5:30 pm.
