Karen Barefoot is leaving Elon University and returning to Old Dominian.

Barefoot, who led the Phoenix to a 20-win season last year (20-13), the first 20-win season in school history, has turned in her resignation. She heading back to ODU, where she was an assistant coach for three years before taking the Elon job.
Barefoot replaces Wendy Larry, who is stepping down after 25 years at ODU. Larry led the Monarchs to 559 wins, 20 NCAA tournament appearances and to 17 consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championships (1992-2008). She also guided ODU to the NCAA championship game in 1997.
But despite being a young coach, Barefoot put together an impressive resume of her own at Elon. She led the Phoenix to their first ever Division I postseason appearance last season and a victory against USC-Upstate in the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
In three years with the Phoenix, Barefoot was 37-58, which includes a 20-40 record in the Southern Conference.
