Someone has been scaring women on the ASU campus and in downtown Boone. A perpetrator described to be a white male about 5 feet 5 inches wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood on has surprised women on two occasions on the ASU campus and one occasion in downtown Boone by pulling their pants down.

The perpetrator is described to be in his late teens or early twenties. The incident may sound like a prank, but according to Detective Matt Stevens with the Boone Police, at least one of the women reported feeling threatened by the incident.  A Crime Alert reports that last Tuesday at about 8:50pm, a female student was assaulted while walking near the Old Library Classroom Building and Smith-Wright Hall. The victim told police that she observed a white male walking towards her. When she went to pass him, the subject attempted to pull her pants down, and then ran towards the student union. Stevens said that they are unable to confirm that this is the same person who conducted a similar incident in a parking lot between Howard and King Streets in late February. However, he urges all women to take basic safety precautions. Always walk with a friend, especially at dark. Students should travel on and off campus to social events with a responsible friend. And pay attention to your surroundings at all times. If you are a in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, call 911. And anyone with information on the male suspect, contact either the investigations Division at the Appalachian State University Police Department at 262-2150 or, if you do not wish to reveal your identity, call Crimestoppers at 262-4555.
