Crawdads sweep BlueClaws PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads completed the three-game sweep of the Lakewood BlueClaws with a 10-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon, before 4,004 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads (32-26) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by errupting for five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Christian Villanueva and Andrew Clark led off with back-to-back singles and Jake Skole walked to load the bases.  Kellin Deglan drove in a run on a misplayed ground ball to third; Jonathan Roof followed with a two-run double to right field that made it 2-0. Jurickson Profar scored Deglan from third on a ground out and 2B Odubel Herrera had a run-scoring single to cap off the rally.
Hickory scored three more times in the third. Tomas Telis doubled and advanced to third on a groundout. He scored on a wild pitch, making it 6-0.  One out later, Clark walked and came home on Skole's two-out, two-run homer to make it 8-0.
The offensive onslaught continued in the fourth. Profar singled to lead-off the inning and raced all the way home on an RBI double by Herrera. Herrera advanced to third on a ground-ball out and Villanueva drove him in with an RBI single, stretching the Hickory lead to 10-0.
Winning pitcher Nick Tepesch (2-3) was dominant. He retired the first nine men he faced, and ended up tossing seven shutout frames, scattering three hits, walking one and striking out 10.
The BlueClaws (28-30) finally got on the board thanks to a two-run homer by Cameron Rupp in the eighth. and inched Carlos Perdomo had a sacrifice fly in the ninth. 
NOTES: The Crawdads hit the road to start a three-game series in Lexington on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The 'Dads return home on Thursday, June 16 against the Charleston RiverDogs.  It will be Thirsty Thursday, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, with $1 can beers and Pepsis!  Also, don't miss the post-game concert by Norva Jean Dreams!  First pitch is at 7 p.m., gates open at 6 p.m.
